Molina Healthcare of Illinois and Mae partner to enhance maternal health services for mothers statewide
Molina Healthcare of Illinois (“Molina”) has teamed up with Mae, a digitally-enabled maternal health platform, to bring enhanced pregnancy and postpartum support services to expectant mothers statewide.
Through this partnership, Molina Medicaid members will have access to real-time digital symptom monitoring to catch and address physical and social risks early. This unique model also provides access to a network of vetted, insurance-eligible doulas for emotional, physical, and educational support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Members are also offered small group-based education, resources, and materials relevant to the pregnancy journey.
“We are thrilled to partner with Molina to bring a scalable, high-impact solution to birthing people across the state,” said Maya Hardigan, founder and CEO of Mae. “By combining data-driven insights with the power of community-based support, we are not just improving individual experiences—we are driving the systemic changes necessary to improve maternal health outcomes and experiences.”
This collaboration addresses a critical need in Illinois and aligns with the state’s recent efforts to prioritize maternal health, including the extension of postpartum Medicaid coverage. In Illinois, where the preterm birth rate stands at 10.4% and Medicaid covers over 40% of all births, this program offers evidence-backed support services to those most at risk. The platform’s outcome-driven approach has demonstrated significant results, including a 41% reduction in preterm birth rates among engaged members, which directly supports Molina’s mission to improve the health and well-being of Illinois residents.
“Like Mae, Molina is committed to advancing innovative solutions that improve outcomes for mothers and babies across Illinois,” said Kris Classen, plan president at Molina Healthcare of Illinois. “We are proud to partner with Mae in giving new mothers access to a digital health platform that will help them get the care they need for a healthy pregnancy, safe delivery, and strong start for their baby.”
