Advocate Health lending its technology expertise to health system leaders in London

Advocate Health is sharing its technology expertise with the National Health Service of the United Kingdom (NHS), which is funding a trip for more than 100 teammates to help seven London hospitals and clinics transition to using Epic, an electronic health record system headquartered in Wisconsin.

Advocate Health has substantial experience using technology and Epic to provide safe, high-quality care for patients.

“We’re proud to share our team’s expertise because we know firsthand how helpful it can be to have an experienced mentor when implementing and learning a new technology system,” Advocate Health Chief Information Officer Bobbie Byrne said. “We may be separated by an ocean, but our London counterparts share our commitment to using technology to help provide patients with the highest-quality care possible.”

Advocate Health is one of the largest users of Epic in the world, which in turn is one of the most popular electronic health records across the globe. Teammates will help hospitals and clinics across Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust turn on Epic software for the first time, known as a go-live. It is an opportunity to be a good member of the Epic community that frequently assists each other.

The joint go-live of the new system across both Trusts is the biggest ever single go-live of Epic’s electronic patient record anywhere in the world. After these hospitals and clinics complete the transition, those treating patients at any hospital or clinic using Epic will be able to update health information whether the patient is in the U.K., Milwaukee, Charlotte, Chicago or beyond – ensuring that patients receive well-informed, excellent care no matter where they are.

The more than 100 teammates representing physician leadership, health information technology, lab and pharmacy departments were selected because of their Epic expertise. Their careers and this assignment highlight the diversity of career opportunities in the health care industry, beyond the important job of bedside care for patients.
