Illinois House Majority Leader Greg Harris receives outstanding leadership award from IHA
Illinois House Majority Leader Greg Harris was presented the “Outstanding Leadership Award” last week at the Illinois Health and Hospital Association’s (IHA) Leadership Summit in Lombard. Leader Harris was recognized for his unwavering commitment to advance healthcare in Illinois.
“We are proud to honor Leader Harris for his support of the Illinois hospital community and his unwavering commitment to advancing quality, affordable and accessible healthcare in Illinois,” said IHA President and CEO AJ Wilhelmi. “We commend Leader Harris’ distinguished career and his ability to work in a bipartisan way to do what is best for the people of Illinois.”
Leader Harris also led a session at the IHA Leadership Summit entitled “Reflections on Illinois Health Policy: A Conversation with House Majority Leader Greg Harris” to share his perspective on the state of healthcare policy in Illinois. During the session, he addressed the critically important issue of Medicaid policy, reflected on some of his most significant achievements, and offered his thoughts on the future of healthcare policy in Illinois.
Leader Harris has served in the Illinois House for 16 years. He announced last year his plan to retire at the end of the current legislative session. As the key architect of Illinois’ same-sex marriage law, Leader Harris is widely respected for his leadership on marriage equality. He is also recognized as budget expert and lead budget negotiator, as well as for his work on policy, targeting mental health and substance abuse, accessible healthcare, at-risk youth, comprehensive breast care services, transgender rights, and violence prevention.
IHA’S Leadership Summit is a signature event bringing leaders together to discuss healthcare challenges and opportunities. This year, sessions addressed the future of workforce, health equity, and digital innovation. For more information about the 2022 IHA Leadership Summit, visit www.team-iha.org.
