COVID-19 metrics continue rise

As of Sunday, 1,387 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 42 from Saturday and up 135 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 151 were in intensive care units, down one from Saturday and up 17 from the prior week. Twenty percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, down 3 percentage points from the prior week.

There were 48 patients on ventilators, up four from Saturday and from the prior week.

Fifty counties are now at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Forty-four counties are at a “medium” risk level.

The Department of Public Health reported 4,349 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Monday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,507,262, while the death toll remains at 34,271.

The seven-day average for new cases on Monday was 4,625, up 444 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is nine, up two from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 36.3, up 3.5 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 22,836,640 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,650,769 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 12,191.
