Illinois COVID-19 hospitalizations continue decline

As of Tuesday, 5,019 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, down 164 from Monday and down 1,488 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 877 were in intensive care units, down 30 from Monday and down 208 from the prior week. There were 503 patients on ventilators, down 39 from Sunday and down 105 from the prior week.

There were 15,732 new COVID-19 cases and 143 deaths reported on Wednesday.

The new cases bring the state total to 2,867,299, while the death toll increased to 30,419.

The seven-day average for new cases on Tuesday was 22,546, down 4,100 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 130, up 29 from the prior week.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 11.3 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 14.6 percent.

About 79.7 percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 5 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 69.9 percent are fully vaccinated.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 20,347,598 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data, including 3,796,257 booster doses. The seven-day average of doses administered is 39,760.
