IDPH reports 5,059 new COVID-19 cases, 79 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 5,059 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total to 984,880.

The state’s death toll is at 16,834 after 79 more deaths were reported on Monday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 8.6 percent, a 1.4 percent increase from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 9.8 percent, a 1.1 percent increase from last week.

There were 48,254 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 13,530,371 tests have been processed.

As of Sunday night, 3,948 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 295 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 816 were in the ICU and 471 patients were on ventilators, the latter a decrease of 44 from last week.

Thirty-two percent of Illinois’ 32,374 hospital beds were available as of Monday morning. Twenty-six percent of the state’s 3,294 ICU beds were available as were 74 percent of the state’s 5,698 ventilators.
