Rush to discontinue rehab unit at Oak Park Hospital

Rush University Medical Center is seeking to discontinue a 10-bed inpatient physical rehabilitation unit at its Oak Park Hospital because of low utilization.

Patients would be referred to Rush University Medical Center and Rush Copley Medical Center, or other area facilities, Robert Spadoni, vice president of hospital operations at Rush Oak Park Hospital, said in a statement emailed to Health News Illinois.

“While this was a difficult decision to make, we are enthusiastic about the possibilities that exist to more fully invest in and expand our other care services and programs, including cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation and our physical and occupational therapy programs,” he said.
