Wisconsin senator requests information on union ‘dues skimming’ from Medicaid
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., wants more information from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on states “skimming” union dues from Medicaid payments.
Eleven states, including Illinois, allow unions to classify personal home healthcare workers as government employees to collect dues, according to the letter.
Johnson said this estimated $200 million per year would otherwise go to the care of Medicaid recipients.
“I respectfully encourage CMS to review this practice and determine whether changes to law or regulation are necessary to ensure that Medicaid funds are provided to the program’s intended beneficiaries,” he wrote CMS Administrator Seema Verma.
A CMS spokeswoman confirmed they received Johnson’s letter and will respond.
