April 16 – Examining Illinois’ maternal health crisis
April 16 @ 8:30 am
Illinois is facing a maternal health crisis. The number of state residents dying from pregnancy is on the rise and most of the deaths are preventable. Black women are disproportionately impacted.
Policymakers have responded by boosting funding and expanding Medicaid access to doulas and midwives. Gov. JB Pritzker is proposing another $23 million in his upcoming budget for home visits for new parents, grants for community-based reproductive health providers and diapers for low-income moms.
But are these efforts enough to move the needle and address the systemic racism driving the health disparities? What more can be done?
A panel of experts will address these questions more at a Health News Illinois panel in Chicago on April 16.
