Illinois hospitalizations continue decline

As of Monday, 1,815 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up four from Sunday and down 819 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 352 were in intensive care units, down 18 from Sunday and down 112 from the prior week. There were 172 patients on ventilators, down 28 from Sunday and down 98 from the prior week.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,893 new COVID-19 cases and 53 new deaths on Tuesday.

The new cases bring the state total to 3,004,664, while the death toll increased to 32,072.

The seven-day average for new cases on Tuesday was 3,903, down 2,912 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 72, down four from the prior week.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 2.9 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 3.8 percent.

About 80.4 percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 5 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 71.1 percent are fully vaccinated.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 20,909,741 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data, including 4,063,447 booster doses. The seven-day average of doses administered is 23,110.
