IDPH reports 2,211 new COVID-19 cases, 19 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,211 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 1,343,988.

The state’s death toll is at 22,066 after 19 more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 3.3 percent, down 0.2 percent from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 4 percent, a 0.1 percent decrease from last week.

There were 57,483 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 22,929,518 tests have been processed.

As of Monday night, 2,074 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 106 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 493 were in the ICU and 262 patients were on ventilators, the latter up 11 from last week.

Twenty-nine percent of Illinois’ 32,219 hospital beds were available as of Tuesday morning. Twenty-four percent of the state’s 3,384 ICU beds were available as were 76 percent of the state’s 5,708 ventilators.

A total of 9,450,418 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 72,613 doses, with 40,361 doses administered on Monday.

The department said the low number is attributable to a national outage in the pharmacy system preventing data from pharmacies like Walgreens, Albertsons and CVS from being collected. Missing doses will be reflected in numbers over the coming days.

There have been 11,970,775 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago.
