IDPH reports one-day high of 6,943 new COVID-19 cases, 95,111 processed tests

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported two new records Friday, with a one-day high of 6,943 new COVID-19 cases after processing 95,111 tests.

With the new cases, Illinois has now surpassed 400,000 COVID-19 cases. The state’s total number is 402,401.

The previous one-day high of 6,363 new COVID-19 cases was set Thursday.

The state’s death toll is at 9,711 after 36 more deaths were reported on Friday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 7.3 percent, a 0.4 percent increase from Thursday.

There were 95,111 more tests processed during the past day, the highest single-day number since 87,759 were reported on Oct. 16. A total of 7,637,209 tests have been processed.

As of Thursday night, 3,092 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 594 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 673 were in the ICU and 288 patients were on ventilators.

Thirty-two percent of Illinois’ 35,068 hospital beds were available as of Friday morning. Thirty-three percent of the state’s 3,787 ICU beds were available as were 75 percent of the state’s 5,700 ventilators.
