Medicaid rolls see drop in October

The state’s Medicaid managed care rolls dropped by nearly 1.5 percent in October, according to recent data from the Department of Healthcare and Family Services.

Enrollment in HealthChoice Illinois was 2,820,406 as of Nov. 1, down from the 2,862,984 enrolled on Oct. 1.

All five health plans saw a drop in their Medicaid rolls.

As of Nov. 1, enrollment totals were:

  • Aetna Better Health – 410,401 (1.7 percent decrease from Oct. 1)
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois – 759,569 (1 percent decrease)
  • Molina Healthcare – 336,755 (1.7 percent decrease)
  • CountyCare Health Plan (Cook County only) – 430,370 (1.7 percent decrease)
  • Meridian Health Plan – 846,862 (1.6 percent decrease)

Nearly 75,000 Illinoisans have been disenrolled from Medicaid rolls since the start of the redetermination process, according to data from KFF. Nearly 696,000 individuals have had their coverage renewed.

The analysis shows Illinois continues to have the lowest Medicaid disenrollment rate among states.
