New Jersey-based Rising Pharmaceuticals said Tuesday it has opened a new commercial manufacturing facility in Decatur.
The company said the manufacturing and packaging facility will expand its sterile dosage capabilities, including injectables and ophthalmic products.
“With one of the broadest portfolios of any U.S. generic pharmaceuticals company, we recognize that expanding manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. is mission-critical for our continued commercial success as well as for public health in general,” CEO Vimal Kavuru said in a statement.
Steven Coventry, vice president of operations and general manager at Rising, said the site is now operational, with manufacturing expected to begin next year.
Rising purchased the site in July for nearly $1.3 million. It was previously owned by Akorn Pharmaceuticals, which abruptly shut down operations in February.
Coventry said they will hire back former Akorn employees and individuals with specific pharmaceutical expertise.
