NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health partners with AVIA for pioneering generative AI collaborative for healthcare

NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health (NS-EEH) has announced a partnership with AVIA, the nation’s leading healthcare digital transformation partner, to research and develop a comprehensive, actionable strategy for the adoption of generative AI capabilities in healthcare. NS-EEH joins a collaborative of health systems, key industry organizations, and government leaders that are working to identify risks, opportunities, and meaningful guidelines for impactful and ethical AI adoption for the healthcare industry.

“The systematic evaluation and implementation of Generative AI and other new technologies presents significant potential for better understanding and uniquely meeting the needs of our patients and communities,” said Kristen Murtos, Chief Innovation and Transformation Officer, NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health. “We are taking a proactive approach to understand and implement AI and are already seeing the promise it holds to help improve care in areas like addressing social determinants of health, remote monitoring and even in how we best deploy our team members. We are excited to partner with other likeminded organizations to learn from each other and pave this path forward together.”

Generative AI—a category of artificial intelligence algorithms that generate new outputs based on the data they have been trained on—is poised to transform the delivery of healthcare, lower costs, and revolutionize the patient and provider experience. However, the healthcare industry has only barely set foot on the path toward unlocking AI’s potential. NS-EEH’s participation in this pioneering initiative makes it among the first health systems to perform serious and thorough research into the practical side of AI adoption, supported by leading experts in healthcare AI, ethics, and regulatory oversight.

“It’s essential that the healthcare industry works together to identify real opportunities and best practices for healthcare AI adoption,” said AVIA CEO Linda Finkel. “NorthShore – Edward-Elmhurst Health’s expertise and insights will be a major asset as we identify the most effective, impactful, and responsible way forward with this transformative technology.”
