Sinai Chicago receives one million dollar gift from Michael Reese Health Trust
Sinai Chicago has received a $1 million gift from Michael Reese Health Trust for funding its new electronic health record system launching in summer 2023. The digital health transformation project will be one of the most significant and impactful investments in Sinai Chicago’s quality of care in decades, helping to build a stronger health care infrastructure for Chicago’s most vulnerable communities. The gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous donor as part of Sinai Chicago’s larger Digital Health Transformation fundraising campaign, which will run through 2024.
“This is truly an exciting and vast undertaking for Sinai Chicago in upgrading our system-wide health care technology with this top-of-the-line electronic medical record,” said Sinai Chicago President & CEO Dr. Ngozi Ezike.” “I want to thank our partners at Michael Reese Health Trust for this generous donation that continues our goal in advancing health equity for all.”
Starting in 2022, Sinai Chicago will begin to adopt Epic, which is recognized as a market leader and a “best-in-class” electronic health record (EHR) platform. The new platform supports provider decision-making at the point of care and empowers patients by ensuring providers are well-equipped to provide the right care, at the right place, at the right time. The new system will yield more efficient and effective health care, increased capacity to serve more patients, and more support for the patients and communities that Sinai serves.
“This is Michael Reese’s first Go-Big allocation, a special, significantly larger than normal grant to support transformational initiatives that align with both ours and our partners’ vision and values. This investment in Sinai Chicago’s infrastructure supports both organizations’ shared vision of health equity,” said Michael Reese Health Trust President & CEO Gayla Brockman. “Sinai Chicago is making sure no matter where a Chicagoan seeks health care services – whether it be at a public health system like Sinai, or at a private system elsewhere – quick access to up-to-date patient information is available, enabling caregivers to provide more coordinated and efficient care and ensuring health care information is securely stored and shared.”
Epic will advance continuity in all aspects of patient care, including quality, cost efficiency, and patient-provider communication. Ultimately, Epic will advance Sinai’s ability to address health inequities and disparities by allowing caregivers to capture patients’ data effectively and provide better targeted care.
