COVID-19 metrics see slight downtick

As of Sunday, 1,331 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 53 from Saturday and down 36 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 146 were in intensive care units, up six from Saturday and up two from the prior week. Twenty-one percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, up 1 percentage point from the prior week.

There were 50 patients on ventilators, up three from Saturday and up two from the prior week.

Thirty-three counties are now at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Forty-eight counties are at a “medium” risk level.

The Department of Public Health reported 1,804 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Monday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,678,190, while the death toll remains at 34,687.

The seven-day average for new cases on Monday was 3,463, down 61 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 11, up two from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 27.2, down 0.5 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 23,228,337 COVID-19 vaccine doses, including 4,748,867 booster shots. The seven-day average for doses administered is 6,315.
