COVID-19 metrics remain level

As of Tuesday, 1,363 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, down six from Monday and down 61 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 145 were in intensive care units, the same as Monday and down 23 from the prior week. Twenty-one percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, up 1 percentage point from the prior week.

There were 55 patients on ventilators, up 10 from Monday and down seven from the prior week.

Forty-two counties are now at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Thirty-nine counties are at a “medium” risk level.

The Department of Public Health reported 3,570 new COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths on Wednesday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,661,342, while the death toll is at 34,640.

The seven-day average for new cases on Wednesday was 3,612, up 91 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 11, up two from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 28.3, up 0.7 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 23,198,641 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,741,977 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 7,140.
