Illinois’ COVID-19 metrics continue upward trend

After a dip last week, Illinois’ COVID-19 metrics are headed back up, according to recent data from the Department of Public Health.

As of Monday, 1,466 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 27 from Sunday and up 54 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 139 were in intensive care units, down 15 from Sunday and down 13 from the prior week. Twenty percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, the same as the prior week.

There were 39 patients on ventilators, up two from Sunday and down nine from the prior week.

Fifty-eight counties are now at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Thirty-six counties are at a “medium” risk level.

IDPH reported 5,205 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths on Tuesday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,548,004, while the death toll is at 34,326.

The seven-day average for new cases on Tuesday was 5,277, up 977 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is six, down three from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 41.4, up 7.6 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 22,942,451 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,672,637 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 13,199.
