COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations see slight increase

As of Sunday, 1,252 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 47 from Saturday and up 98 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 134 were in intensive care units, down eight from Saturday and up one from the prior week. Twenty-three percent of Illinois’ ICU beds were available, up 2 percentage points from the prior week.

There were 44 patients on ventilators, up two from Saturday and up six from the prior week.

Twenty-eight Illinois counties are now at a “high” community level of COVID-19, the level at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people mask indoors in public spaces. Forty-three counties are at a “medium” risk level.

The Department of Public Health reported 3,283 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths on Monday. The new cases bring the state total to 3,474,890, while the death toll is at 34,208.

The seven-day average for new cases on Monday was 4,181, up 105 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is seven, down two from the prior week.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 people is 32.8, up 0.8 from the prior week.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 22,756,390 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,631,481 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 8,088.
