COVID-19 hospitalizations, cases see slight increase

COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases have continued to slowly inch up, according to recent data from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

As of Sunday, 481 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 47 from Saturday and up 20 from the prior week.

Of the patients in the hospital, 64 were in intensive care units, up four from Saturday and up five from the prior week. There were 27 patients on ventilators, down three from Saturday and down four from the prior week.

IDPH reported 756 new COVID-19 cases and no deaths on Monday.

The new cases bring the state total to 3,072,636, while the death toll remains at 33,400.

The seven-day average for new cases on Monday was 1,272, up 115 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 10, down six from the prior week.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests and the seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests are both 1.9 percent.

About 81.1 percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 5 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 72.5 percent are fully vaccinated.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 21,429,656 COVID-19 vaccines, including 4,289,515 booster doses. The seven-day average for doses administered is 13,736.
