Illinois continues downward trend in COVID-19

Illinois continued to see positive movement in its COVID-19 metrics last week, according to the latest data from the state Department of Public Health.

IDPH reported 29,939 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease through Thursday last week, down from the 60,389 new COVID-19 cases reported the prior week. The agency also reported 499 COVID-19 deaths last week, compared to 608 the prior week.

The new cases bring the state total to 2,987,502, while the death toll increased to 31,795.

Numbers were not updated Friday due to Lincoln’s Birthday.
