COVID-19 hospitalizations, deaths continue to fall
There were 3,645 Illinoisans in the hospital on Tuesday with COVID-19, down 160 from Monday and down 1,374 from the prior week.
Of the patients in the hospital, 632 were in intensive care units, a decrease of 37 from Monday and down 245 from the prior week. There were 378 patients on ventilators, down 24 from Monday and a decline of 125 from the prior week.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 9,463 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday and 87 deaths.
The new cases bring the state total to 2,939,099 while the death toll increased to 31,123.
The seven-day average for new cases on Wednesday was 10,257, down 12,289 from the prior week. The seven-day average for daily deaths is 101, down 29 from the prior week.
The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 6.3 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 8.2 percent.
About 80.2 percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 5 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 70.5 percent are fully vaccinated.
Illinois vaccinators have administered 20,581,294 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data, including 3,902,602 booster doses. The seven-day average of doses administered is 33,385.
