COVID-19 cases continue uptick

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 22,600 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 last week, a 29 percent jump from the prior week.

There have now been 1,735,586 cases in the state. The death toll reached 26,077, after 129 more deaths last week.

As of Thursday, 1,553 individuals in Illinois were in the hospital with COVID-19, up 75 from Wednesday and an increase of 296 from the prior week. Of those patients in the hospital with COVID-19, 307 patients were in the ICU and 140 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test is 2.5 percent. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity is 3 percent.

More than 67 percent of the state has received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and 61 percent of Illinoisans are fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A total of 16,256,855 have been administered. The seven-day average is 62,689 doses.

IDPH reported 15,120 cases of the B.1.617.2 variant, also known as the delta variant, as of Friday. Additionally, the department is reporting three delta sub-variants: AY.1, AY.2 and AY.3.
