IDPH reports 24 more COVID-19 deaths, 3,114 new cases

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 24 new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, the highest single-day total in over two months.

The death toll is now 23,575. Thursday’s total death was the highest since 37 deaths were reported on June 6.

There were 3,114 new COVID-19 cases reported Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 1,454,208.

About 74.2 percent of eligible Illinoisans ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 57.5 percent are fully vaccinated.

Illinois vaccinators have administered 13,463,308 COVID-19 vaccines, per state data. The seven-day average of doses administered is 27,611.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 5 percent. The seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 5.8 percent.

As of Wednesday, 1,608 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 324 were in the ICU and 152 patients were on ventilators.
