Sixty percent of Illinois adults have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

Roughly 60 percent of all adult Illinoisans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced Wednesday.

Additionally, 80 percent of Illinoisans 65 years and older have received at least one dose of a vaccine.

“As President (Joe) Biden sets the goal of vaccinating 70 percent of adults by July 4, 2021, Illinois has administered more doses than the national average and will continue to pursue innovative strategies to encourage all eligible residents to get vaccinated,” the department said in a statement.

A total of 9,546,833 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 71,219 doses, with 96,415 doses administered on Tuesday. That total includes 40,000 doses that were not reported by pharmacies over the weekend because of a national system issue. Additional doses could also be added in the coming days.

The department reported 2,410 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state’s total to 1,346,398.

The state’s death toll is at 22,096 after 30 more deaths were reported on Wednesday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 3.3 percent, down 0.1 percent from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 3.9 percent, a 0.2 percent decrease from last week.

There were 77,670 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 23,007,188 tests have been processed.

As of Tuesday night, 2,060 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 94 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 496 were in the ICU and 249 patients were on ventilators, the latter up 11 from last week.

Twenty-five percent of Illinois’ 32,213 hospital beds were available as of Wednesday morning. Twenty percent of the state’s 3,378 ICU beds were available as were 75 percent of the state’s 5,716 ventilators.
