IDPH reports 3,394 new COVID-19 cases, 38 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,394 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 1,331,848.

The state’s death toll is at 21,927 after 38 more deaths were reported on Thursday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 3.5 percent, down 0.3 percent from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 4 percent, a 0.4 percent decrease from last week.

There were 89,057 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 22,558,270 tests have been processed.

As of Wednesday night, 2,115 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 32 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 475 were in the ICU and 231 patients were on ventilators, the latter down seven from last week.

Twenty-five percent of Illinois’ 32,364 hospital beds were available as of Thursday morning. Twenty percent of the state’s 3,388 ICU beds were available as were 76 percent of the state’s 5,721 ventilators.

A total of 9,155,989 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 97,434 doses, with 107,689 doses administered on Wednesday.

There have been 11,546,345 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago.
