IDPH reports 2,556 new COVID-19 cases, 23 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,556 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 1,325,726.

The state’s death toll is at 21,858 after 23 more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 3.5 percent, down 0.3 percent from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 4.1 percent, a 0.4 percent decrease from last week.

There were 62,724 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 22,381,515 tests have been processed.

As of Monday night, 2,180 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 108 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 502 were in the ICU and 251 patients were on ventilators, the latter up 28 from last week.

Twenty-nine percent of Illinois’ 32,279 hospital beds were available as of Tuesday morning. Twenty-five percent of the state’s 3,384 ICU beds were available as were 76 percent of the state’s 5,723 ventilators.

A total of 8,942,127 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 105,757 doses, with 81,152 doses administered on Monday.

There have been 11,149,675 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago.
