IDPH reports 2,587 COVID-19 cases, nine deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,587 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 1,306,787.

The state’s death toll is at 21,694 after nine more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 3.8 percent, down 0.5 percent from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 4.5 percent, a 0.5 percent decrease from last week.

There were 62,406 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 21,839,226 tests have been processed.

As of Monday night, 2,288 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 260 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 522 were in the ICU and 223 patients were on ventilators, the latter up 38 from last week.

Twenty-eight percent of Illinois’ 32,323 hospital beds were available as of Tuesday morning. Twenty-five percent of the state’s 3,385 ICU beds were available as were 75 percent of the state’s 5,702 ventilators.

A total of 8,201,830 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 122,531 doses, with 81,963 doses administered on Monday. Due to a technical issue, doses administered by Walgreens on Monday are not included in the total. Those figures will be added in Wednesday’s report.

There have been 10,162,155 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago.
