IDPH reports 3,193 COVID-19 cases, 17 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 3,193 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 1,285,398.

The state’s death toll is at 21,540 after 17 more deaths were reported on Tuesday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 4.3 percent, up 0.4 percent from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 5 percent, a 0.5 percent increase from last week.

There were 58,248 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 21,283,370 tests have been processed.

As of Monday night, 2,028 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 380 from last week. It’s the first time there have been at least 2,000 hospitalizations since Feb. 10, and the number has nearly doubled over the past month.

Of the patients in the hospital this week, 466 were in the ICU and 185 patients were on ventilators, the latter up 42 from last week.

Twenty-eight percent of Illinois’ 32,350 hospital beds were available as of Tuesday morning. Twenty-four percent of the state’s 3,382 ICU beds were available as were 76 percent of the state’s 5,696 ventilators.

A total of 7,344,112 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 132,979 doses, with 100,729 doses administered on Monday.

There have been 9,343,775 doses of COVID-19 vaccines delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago.
