IDPH reports 6,652 new COVID-19 cases, 88 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,652 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total to 1,052,682.

The state’s death toll is at 17,928 after 88 more deaths were reported on Thursday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 6.8 percent, a 1.7 percent drop from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 8 percent, a 1.8 percent decrease from last week.

There were 118,036 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 14,457,620 tests have been processed.

As of Wednesday night, 3,511 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 410 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 742 were in the ICU and 382 patients were on ventilators, the latter a decrease of 68 from last week.

Twenty-eight percent of Illinois’ 32,391 hospital beds were available as of Thursday morning. Twenty-three percent of the state’s 3,308 ICU beds were available as were 74 percent of the state’s 5,716 ventilators.

As of Wednesday night, 704,225 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago. An additional 268,525 doses have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities.

A total of 414,296 vaccines have been administered, including 51,891 for long-term care facilities. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 26,703 doses.
