IDPH reports 5,862 new COVID-19 cases, 97 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 5,862 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total to 1,046,030.

The state’s death toll is at 17,840 after 97 more deaths were reported on Wednesday.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 7.3 percent, a 1.1 percent drop from last week. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity using the number of COVID-19 positive tests over total tests is 8.3 percent, a 1.6 percent decrease from last week.

There were 76,107 tests processed over the past 24 hours. A total of 14,339,584 tests have been processed.

As of Tuesday night, 3,642 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 286 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 749 were in the ICU and 386 patients were on ventilators, the latter a decrease of 65 from last week.

Twenty-eight percent of Illinois’ 32,394 hospital beds were available as of Wednesday morning. Twenty-four percent of the state’s 3,305 ICU beds were available as were 73 percent of the state’s 5,713 ventilators.

As of Tuesday night, 703,525 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been delivered to Illinois providers, including in Chicago. An additional 268,525 doses have been allocated to the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities.

A total of 384,658 vaccines have been administered, including 48,811 for long-term care facilities. The 7-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is approximately 25,400 doses.
