Lightfoot unveils ‘pandemic’ budget with layoffs, property tax increase

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot unveiled a tentative $12.8 billion budget on Wednesday, which calls for hundreds of layoffs, the elimination of over 1,000 unfilled positions and a property tax hike to offset a $1.2 billion revenue shortfall caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and continued social unrest.
