IDPH reports 4,342 new COVID-19 cases, 69 deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 69 new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, the highest single-day total in over four months.

The new deaths bring the total number of COVID-related deaths in Illinois to 9,345. Wednesday’s mark was the highest since 84 deaths were reported on June 17.

Another 4,342 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total to 355,217.

The seven-day statewide positivity rate for cases as a percent of total tests is 5.7 percent, a 0.2 percent increase from Tuesday and an increase of 1.1 percent from last week.

There were 66,791 more tests processed during the past day. A total of 6,950,105 tests have been processed.

As of Tuesday night, 2,338 Illinoisans were in the hospital with COVID-19, an increase of 364 from last week. Of the patients in the hospital this week, 502 were in the ICU and 194 patients were on ventilators.

Thirty-four percent of Illinois’ 35,059 hospital beds were available as of Wednesday morning.
Thirty-eight percent of the state’s 3,773 ICU beds were available as were 77 percent of the state’s 5,753 ventilators.
