Preckwinkle to self-isolate after employee tests positive for COVID-19

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said Wednesday she will self-isolate for the rest of the week after a member of her protection detail tested positive for COVID-19.

Preckwinkle said in a statement that she has shown no signs or symptoms of the virus, but would self-isolate until the end of the day Friday, April 10 as a precaution.

The employee was last in the Cook County Building and in a vehicle operated by the detail on March 27. Since then, Preckwinkle said they have done a deep clean on the impacted rooms, offices and vehicles where the individual would have worked.

“Cook County has a large workforce and unfortunately, like all large workplaces and communities, we are likely to continue to learn of more positive test results involving County employees or their loved ones as more tests become available and the virus continues to spread,” she said.
