SPRINGFIELD – Memorial Medical Center was recognized as a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care by Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures developed with input from the medical community. To receive a Blue Distinction Centers+ designation, a hospital must also demonstrate cost efficiency.
The Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care designation means Memorial Medical Center meets requirements that support evidence-based practices of care as well as meeting consumers’ needs for affordable health care. They have demonstrated expertise in delivering safe and effective cardiac care, focusing on cardiac valve surgery, coronary artery bypass graft and percutaneous coronary interventions.
“Our designation serves as another validation of the excellent patient care provided at Memorial,” said Mitch Rogers, the nonprofit hospital’s administrator for cardiovascular and pulmonary services. “This recognition is further testament to the great work performed every day by our staff and physician partners and reflects our mission to improve the health of the people and communities we serve.”
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death globally and is expected to claim more than 23.6 million lives annually by 2030, according to the American Heart Association.
