Harris eyes insurance assessment to boost Medicaid spending

A proposed assessment on insurance companies could bring “substantial” money to the state’s Medicaid program, according to House Majority Leader Greg Harris, D-Chicago. But the state chamber of commerce called the proposal a tax that will increase healthcare costs. And Medicaid health plans oppose the current bill.
