Hospitals sound off on proposed public charge rule

A federal proposal that would make it harder for legal immigrants to get green cards if they received certain forms of public assistance, including Medicaid, could have a cascading impact in Illinois, leading to more families forgoing coverage, a decrease in Medicaid and CHIP funding and a rise in uncompensated care for hospitals, warns a recent report from Manatt prepared for national hospital and provider groups.
