Northwestern to acquire Centegra after gaining regulatory approvals

Northwestern Medicine is moving forward with an acquisition of Centegra Health System after obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals. Centegra is set to join the academic health system Sept. 1, more than two years after the merger was first announced.

“Together with Centegra, Northwestern Medicine will explore opportunities to expand and enhance clinical care offerings to patients in northern Illinois,” Northwestern Memorial HealthCare CEO Dean Harrison said in a statement.

No money will change hands. Centegra has three hospitals in Huntley, McHenry and Woodstock. Northwestern has seven.

“This partnership will combine Centegra’s community-based care with Northwestern Medicine’s academic healthcare expertise,” Centegra CEO Michael Eesley said.
