Dr. Leo Hsu named EMS medical director of Southwestern Illinois EMS System

BELLEVILLE — Dr. Leo Hsu has been named Medical Director of the Southwestern Illinois Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System. He is tasked with oversight, leadership, and quality improvement of local EMTs and paramedics in the Southwestern Illinois EMS System.

The Southwestern Illinois EMS System, through Memorial Hospital Belleville, has been an approved Resource Hospital by Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) since 1976, with services that cover Clinton, St. Clair, Madison, Monroe, and Randolph Counties. Memorial Hospital Belleville, through the Southwestern Illinois EMS System, provides paramedic training and continuing education for local EMS providers.

Dr. Hsu is dual board certified in emergency medicine and EMS. He also serves as regional medical director for TeamHealth, a leading physician services organization now providing emergency department staffing and management services to Memorial’s two hospitals, Memorial Hospital Belleville and Memorial East in Shiloh. Dr. Hsu recently served as EMS medical director for St. Charles County Ambulance District (SCCAD), and previously held the role of stroke medical director at BJC’s Progress West Hospital.

Dr. Hsu received his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, completed his residency in emergency medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, and received his MBA from Southeast Missouri State University. He was named Physician of the Year in 2015 by the Missouri Emergency Medical Services Association (MEMSA).
